We get to the actual point of the week's arc today when Elly learns to her horror that despite what she thinks, her kids will always love television more than the books she's made a tedious chore that only gets them yelled at and told they're bad.

(Strip Number 883, Original Publication Date, 3 July 1985)

Panel 1: Now that she's completed it, Elly asks John to read her article for the Valley Voice.

Panel 2: Said article's theme is how children are increasingly turning to books as their primary source of entertainment.

Panel 3: He tells her that it's a nice article. She asks where Mike and Lizzie are.

Panel 4: When he says that they're watching television, she looks like she got punched in the gut.

Summary: I'm not a fan of children passively watching the box myself. That being said, I don't blame the kids or network television for the problem. The source of the problem is a shrieking irritant who tells the children to find SOMETHING to do that doesn't require her to supervise them lest they make her brain atrophy.
