As we begin the third week of the arc, we find that John isn't especially fond of being a spectacle merely because Annie is a tad late.

(Strip Number 871, Original Publication Date, 17 June 1985)

Panel 1: The neighborhood comes out to see John getting arrested. Lawrence asks if he is going to jail.

Panel 2: Mike says nah, he jus'hasta wait until Steve an'Anne come home.

Panel 3: Anne just hasta sign some papers sayin'it was okay he was in their house.

Panel 4: As John sits in the patrol car and stews in his own juices, he's not at all mollified by Elly telling him "Honest, honey, she said she'd be RIGHT BACK!"

Summary: While John is right to fear the chattering of 'friends', he doesn't realize said talk would have to be "What did SHE put him up to now?" Not, of course, that it lets him off the hook.

My God. I just realized that the Patterson male has a stupid tendency to retrieve stupid things (pottys and laptops) for silly reasons. Twenty one and a half years from now, it'll be Mike's turn to look like a monkey when the firefighters question his intellect.
