Things get steadily worse for John when Mrs Baird calls the cops.

(Strip Number 868, Original Publication Date, 13 June 1985)

Panel 1: Elly, waiting outside, hears the burglar alarm and realizes that John has set it off.

Panel 2: John exits the house having found the Potty and asks if there's any way to shut off the alarm.

Panel 3: Michael says everything will be okay because someone is coming to fix everything.

Panel 4: That's because Mrs Baird's called the police!

Summary: What follows is a sequence I would have found distasteful even before the white-hot madness in Moncton last week: the first arc in which police are depicted as antagonists who live to harass innocent victims of bad luck while turning a blind eye to real criminals.
