We launch into the arc proper with Elly being filled with despair because Anne expects her to babysit for an ill-defined period of time.

(Strip Number 4507, Original Publication Date, 6 June 1985)

Panel 1: Later that day, Annie shows up on the back porch with her kids in tow. She asks Elly if she can leave them with her because Steve's downtown and she's got the car.

Panel 2: Before Elly can work in an objection (or ask why Steve can't take a bus), Annie thanks her and says it'll only be for an hour or so.

Panel 3: As she once again faces having to sit for Omens One and Two, she tells herself that she doesn't mind watching them for an hour; it's the 'or so' that's the problem.

Summary: We had a lot of buildup about how big a pain in the neck Richard supposedly is and we're going to get a face-full of it. Well, actually, a potty-full of it when we see John get "defeated" by a toddler with shy bladder syndrome and a couple of neighbor ladies.
