At some point, Lynn must have realized that most people see her as being positively emaciated. This is why she has Anne wondering why she attracts skinny people like Elly who complain about how fat they ain't.

(Strip Number 4499, Original Publication Date, 22 May 1985)

Panel 1: We continue merrily on with Elly talking to Annie over the back fence about evil John and his evil comments about how she's a little chunky.

Panel 2: Elly then bores her by telling her John made her so mad saying that hateful thing.

Panel 3: She then starts to whine about the phantom ten pounds she's wanted to lose ever since she weighed eleven pounds and how she wishes she could be thin and beautiful again. (She also wishes her mother and everyone else would stop telling that EVIL LIE!!!!!!!!!! about how she'd look a lot better if she would stop God-damned slouching like the weight of the whole frakking world was on her shoulders.)

Panel 4: As Elly continues to babble on about how wonderful it would be if she could lose the ten pounds of unsightly flab she never God-damned had it the first place, Annie stands there and wonders why twiggy little things like Elly always come looking for her when they want sympathy she can't feel.

Summary: In this instance, it's because when Elly thinks of herself, she sees someone as wide around as Annie. Annie, of course, never quite managed to understand that Skinny Minnie Miller over the way saw herself as being morbidly obese. Given that the 2014 Lynn sees herself as being twenty pounds over an insane and stupid ideal weight, Annie is NOW stupid because she doesn't see how bad the problem WILL get.
