Panel 1: It would appear that Claire asked Elly what she does and why she's at the workshop. This is because as they head to the elevator, Elly says that she helps with the children's programme at her local library.
Panel 2: She also reads to children, teaches crafts, work with performers and shows films.
Panel 3: As Elly presses the button that will take the two of them to the Restaurant Of Being Treated Shabbily By A Man-Stealing Hussy, she tells Claire that she also takes books to the hospital, does all the posters and displays and writes a column for the local broadsheet.
Panel 4: When Elly summarizes her being a type-A personality who never found busy-work she didn't like as being nothing special, Claire's eyes pretty much bulge out in confused awe.
Summary: The premise Lynn wants to put forward is that Elly is unaware that she's manning the parapets of Western Civilization as it battles against the evil forces of Sports and Technology. The problem is that John's breezy, dismissive comment about her being the library mule is looking more plausible with each panel.
