(Strip Number 4459, Original Publication Date, 26 December 1984)
Panel 1: We start things off with a happy Michael asking Elly what she thinks of the cool gun Auntie Mavis sent him for Christmas. Given that he's just pretended to shoot her, MY opinion is that she should take the damned thing away from him for being an idiot.
Panel 2: Since this is learning-impaired Elly, she doesn't tell him the parable of Vincent and Marvin but instead tells him point blank that she does not like guns and is uncomfortable around people who do.
Panel 3: Michael's explanation that it's just pretend doesn't make her budge from her position.
Panel 4: Sadly and wrongly, Michael thinks her dislike is due to her lack of imagination.
Summary: Given what we had to endure two months ago, I should think that when it comes to threats to her children's well-being, Elly has a fairly healthy imagination. While she was off-base about the costume, it can't be denied that realistic looking guns are THE worst toys to give a child. Too bad that Lynn will lay a "In MY day" thing on us that says that the world has magically gone to pot since she was a child and thus prevented children from experiencing the joys of playing cowboy. The last thing we need for Christmas is the gift of Lynn's stupid childhood.
