We take a trip to Planet Informed Wrongness today as Lawrence fails to see how "obvious" it is that dressing up as a punk rocker means refusing everything good and decent in the world. In short, he's wrong because he isn't hampered by needless fear and boundless ignorance.

(Strip Number 738, Original Publication Date, 1 November 1984)

Panel 1: As they walk to the bus stop on the morning of the first day of November, Gordon asks Michael why his mom didn't let Mike and Lizzie dress up as punk rockers for Halloween. Mike shrugs because he has no God-damned idea why.

Panel 2: A disillusioned Gordo tells Mike that he useta think his mom was cool.

Panel 3: He then goes on to explain that it's just chains and makeup and stuff! So what if SOME guys put safety pins in their noses?!

Panel 4: Lawrence points out that it's all just for fun.

Summary: As I said Monday, this was originally meant to lead into a reminder of what the real problem is. Sadly, the real problem is that the punk rock costume scared Elly and since she's just another boomer dumb-ass with the boomer dumb-ass aversion to thinking things through, she came to the idiotic boomer dumb-ass conclusion that the only reason Mike and Lizzie wanted to dress that way was that they're full of rage and want to destroy her and so on and so forth. This means that while Lawrence is supposed to be ignorant of the peril he'd put himself in, he's actually making more sense than Elly is.
