In today's strip, John bonds with Lizzie because she's being rejected by her former primary caregiver.

(Strip Number 733, Original Publication Date, 25 October 1984)

Panel 1: We find John coming up to a crying Lizzie and telling her that he knows that it's hard for her being the youngest because the big kids don't want her around.

Panel 2: He then says that he likes her and wants her around so Mike can shove his attitude up his assthere.

Panel 3: Having been consoled by both John's being there, Lizzie tell Daddy dats he gots somefin'for him.

Panel 4: Said "somefin" is a hug.

Summary: While this moment is fairly sweet, time has diluted it to a horrific extent. This is because yesterday's Lynnsight also applies here in that Katie is still very close to Rod. This makes life God-damned awkward for her given that her mother is a vindictive jackass with an aversion to personal responsibility.
