(Strip Number 712, Original Publication Date, 22 September 1984)
Panel 1: Once again, Elly tries explaining to her idiot husband that the only thing that's wrong with her it that she is finding it very difficult being a working mother.
Panel 2: She feels as if she's gotta be in two places at once because she has two jobs and she works like crazy at them both.
Panel 3: Brain-dead John assumes that her having a life outside the home is the problem and suggests if she's so stressed out, she should just plain quit the job.
Panel 4: Having successfully identified her rat-bastard husband as the oaf he is, Elly baffles John when she angrily asks him which one should she consider quitting.
Summary: As I said, it took years for John to realize that he was being a heel. Since he feels that displaying remorse is a sign of the weakness he fears and hates more than anything else, he responded by forting himself up in a garage to avoid seeing the damage he did.
