Phil reacts strongly in the negative to the carrot being offered as an alternative to the cigarette that allows him freedom from horrible, horrible domestication.

(Strip Number 695, Original Publication Date, 1 September 1984)

Panel 1: We find Phil at home slowly losing his marbles because the mean old doctor told him no more cigarettes forever and ever.

Panel 2: This is because without his smokes, he doesn't know what to do with his hands.

Panel 3: Georgia tells him to hold on to something healthy and hands him a carrot.

Panel 4: Panicky Idiot Phil tells her she must be kidding about calling it healthy given that it's spent its life covered in dirt.

Summary:: The interesting thing is that we get a chirpy, unsympathetic Lynnsight that says that Alan actually said this when Joan suggested a carrot as a substitute for the super-addictive psycho-active chemical he's been enslaved to.
