(Strip Number 693, Original Publication Date, 30 August 1984)
Panel 1:: After the lesson, Elly finds Phil looking as if he's about to bite his fingers off in sheer frustration. Her response is to remind him that it's only been a few hours since his last cigarette and that he can easily adapt to a little discomfort.
Panel 2: Phil yells so loudly, the pop-art caption takes up the whole panel and blocks our view of him and Elly.
Panel 3: Having heard the scream, Mike wants to know what happened.
Panel 4: A shocked-looking Elly tells Mike that Uncle Phil just bit the handle off his coffee cup.
Summary: Great. More surreal humor about how poorly the characters in this strip cope with discomfort. We'll be dealing with Phil turning into a cartoon crazy man for years to come so we might as well all get used to it. Perhaps I should create an avatar that says "Bend over...Here it comes again."
