Lizzie leaves Phil gobsmacked by offering him a pacifier as a substitute for his cigarette. This allows Lynn to make a leaden and idiotic comment about smokers being big babies.

(Strip Number 692, Original Publication Date, 29 August 1984)

Panel 1: We start things off with Irritable Phil yelling at Mike for not paying attention to his fingering and not listening because he needs a smoke NOW!!

Panel 2: He then screams in frustration, declares that he can't stand this situation and says that he needs a cigarette.

Panel 3: A desperate looking Phil then says "I gotta have some gum... anything!... something to put in my mouth!"

Panel 4: Since Lynn wants to make a point about how silly and foolish Alan/Phil is for not instantly kicking the habit, she has Lizzie offer him her pacifier.

Summary: A week or so from now, the 2013 Lynn admits that she never really did know how bad withdrawal was or how foolish it was to compare the agony Alan was going through to dieting. The 1984 Lynn, on the other hand, thought that Alan was acting like a spoiled child who wouldn't wear his scarf to school and used her strip to say so.
