In today's strip, Elly's relief that Michael couldn't find all the stuff that she threw out because it was useless and old (and NOT because she's a jackass who can't stand the idea that her children won't cooperate and allow her to decide who they are, thank you very much) is short-lived because he rescues stuff thrown out by another domineering imbecile who thinks like her.

(Strip Number 688, Original Publication Date, 24 August 1984)

Panel 1: As Mike walks in the house radiating stink-lines and covered in hash-marks, Always Angry Idiot Elly asks where he was that he got that filthy.

Panel 2:: Mike tells her that he went to the dump to ruin her life and oppress her forever and totally take away her ability to express herself by bringing back the belongings she lovingly threw away.

Panel 3:: She breathes a sigh of relief because he couldn't find it because she believes that he'll finally admit that only she gets to define who and what he is.

Panel 4: Her triumph is short-lived because he says that he brought home somebody else's stuff instead.

Summary:: Given that Elly actually is self-absorbed enough to think that if her children want to be their own people, that must mean that they hate her and want to deny her the same thing, we're going to see a lot of this sort of shite over the years.
