(Strip Number 687, Original Publication Date, 23 August 1984)
Panel 1: John overhears Michael and Elly fighting; this astonishes him because Mike is has only been home for a few minutes and already he and Elly are arguing.
Panel 2: Since he doesn't know what the argument is about and would probably back up the provider of his once-yearly nookie anyway, John says that being together again means they should get along and love each other.
Panel 3: Elly is grateful when John asks "Now - what's the point in continuing this argument?" because she believes that he's about to guilt Mike into admitting that parents are always right and children always wrong and bad and selfish.
Panel 4: Mike astonishes both of them by yelling "I was winning!!"
Summary: This is where John's refusal to engage with his family because his fragile ego cannot tolerate being told "No" comes back to bite him in his fat, stupid arse. Simply put, he can't be a mediator if he doesn't know the stakes.
