(Strip Number 643, Original Publication Date, 29 June 1984)
Panel 1: Since Mike's clothes are clearly too tight, we see him squirming around. Since Elly is too stupid to remember that he's a growing boy, she barks "STAND UP STRAIGHT! PUT YOUR ARMS DOWN! STOP SCRATCHING!" at him.
Panel 2: Too-Damned-Easily-Angered Elly makes the Gorey-face of rage when she asks how she's supposed to know if the clothes will fit if he doesn't stand still.
Panel 3: The clerk asks if there is anything she can do to help.
Panel 4: Elly asks her for a size 12 straight-jacket. (You will note that Lynn preserves the misspelling because she never bothered learning better.)
Summary: Elly clearly seems to not want to realize that Mike doesn't share her idea of nice traveling clothes. For starters, his idea of nice traveling clothes seems to be based on the fact that he actually has to WEAR them and must deal with a concern that means nothing to Elly: comfort. Since she doesn't have to wear something that probably feels as if it were made of poison oak and is also poking him in a tender location, it makes sense to her that his complaints along those lines are wrong and indicate that he hates her.
