(Strip Number 6134, Original Publication Date, 24 June 1984)
Panel 1: We start things off with Elly holding an apple in her hand and moaning "Bleah!" in distaste.
Panel 2: She's filled with despair as she thought-bubbles that she can't eat an apple when her stomach craves cake.
Panel 3: She finishes off the last bit of cake because it's so small, its calories don't count.
Panel 4: Next she says that there's no point in heating up the meatballs she's eating.
Panel 5: She then reminds herself that the yogurt she's devouring is something the kids won't eat.
Panel 6: She then finishes off the Spanish rice which she doesn't find to be too bad cold.
Panel 7: As she carries another of her infamous casseroles over to the dinner table, Elly yells "Dinner's ready, everybody!"
Panel 8: Now that everone else has sat down, Mike asks Elly "Aren't you having supper with us tonight, Mom?" She says that nope, she isn't.
Panel 9: She then makes the pious face of preachiness and says "I'm dieting."
Summary: This portrait of a woman with a severe eating disorder would be bad enough were it not for the fact that she's teaching her daughter to follow the same ruinous path. My guess is that Liz Caine also does this because she also witlessly starves herself.
