Panel 1: As he, Lawrence and Gordon walk home from school, Mike tells them that his mom called and said she's going to be working late.
Panel 2: The reason that this is a problem is that he has to go to dumb'ol Annie's house an'wait for her.
Panel 3: As Darryl Smythe walks over to join them, Mike says that he'd like to know howcome she doesn't trust him with a key to the house.
Panel 4: As we look at the scruffy little boys scruffy little Mike calls friends, Gordon says that she should do so because they can look after the place. The reason that this is "funny" is that since children get dirty and chew gum, it logically "follows" that they'll lose the key.
Summary: I don't like the idea of a bunch of eight or nine year olds racing around unsupervised either. Where Lynn and I part company is that I'm worried about their safety more than I am that Elly has to do more cleaning. The problem is that whenever I express my concerns, I'm told that only WE MOMS can worry about offsprings and small ones.
