(Strip Number 602, Original Publication Date, 28 April 1984)
Panel 1: We start off with Elly, John and Phil being disturbed by the atonal noise Michael is making with his new trumpet.
Panel 2: As Elly glares daggers at Phil for giving it to him, he tells Elly to cut Michael some slack because every great player has to start somewhere.
Panel 3: Phil reminds her that it took quite a while for him to sound good.
Panel 4: Elly tells him that she remembers that he only started to sound good when he moved out.
Summary: The unsubtle hint is that Elly has never liked the 'discordant noise' Phil plays because she thinks that he's doing it simply to bust her ass. The idea that music can be played for a purpose that isn't making her life worse is not one someone as addicted to feeling martyred feels at all comfortable with.
