We begin the "John makes a skeevy idiot of himself at the library" arc with him confessing that the University library was where he went to sleep off his nightly pub crawls.

(Strip Number 581, Original Publication Date, 27 March 1984)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching John drop Elly off at the library; she tells him that she's just going to drop off the second batch of posters she painted before asking if he wants to come with.

Panel 2: Apparently, he does. As he looks around, he says "This is pretty nice. I haven't been in a library since University."

Panel 3: Elly asks if he went there to study.

Panel 4: He says that he went there to sleep.

Summary: We're about ten years from John telling Mike that Daddy was a party-hearty moron who loved to booze it up on Grandpa Will's dime. We're also about ten years away from the 'wonderful' story about how Elly Richards's hopes and dreams died because she found a nerdy, controlling arsebucket farmboy in her favourite chair at the library. Too bad we're only a week away from John admitting that he married Elly because she was plain as a mud fence. Yay. What a great guy!!
