(Strip Number 6129, Original Publication Date, 18 March 1984)
Panel 1: We find ourselves in the kitchen watching John burn breakfast; as he does, Mike and Lizzie argue about her eating the last of the sugar cereal. The whole he-said-she-said thing about whether he got any gets pretty vocal.
Panel 2: Having noticed that Elly has made the scene, John tells her that since he's "got things under control", she should go back to bed.
Panel 3: The strip most of Lynn's fans will see has her in bed reacting to being intruded on by her awful family. The first instance of this is looking as if she's just been told that she has aphasiamiserydeathdespaircancer because Michael wants to know when John is because Lizzie can't get her boots on. (Since they make kids' boots dead easy to get on, my guess is that she should be wondering if Lizzie is trying to ram her feet into her old ones.)
Panel 4: The next panel has her being terrified by John's yelling "GET THAT DOG OFF OF THERE BEFORE HE BREAKS SOMETHING!!" (It has me curious because I want to where 'there' IS.)
Panel 5: John's dismissive comment "So it's a little burnt...eat it anyway." is the only time I agree with Elly's facial expression.
Panel 6: When John tells Elly to not mind him as he's just looking for some socks, he gives him the Penetrating Death Stare because he REARRANGED things and will thus usher in an era of CHAOS.
Panel 7: As the doorbell rings, Mike asks Daddy if he can have a friend in. Why it is that Mike's having a friend over when Mommy is sick is so astonishing an idea that it makes Elly panic is not known. What is known is that Elly is freaking out.
Panel 8: Elly sums up the premise of the strip by thought-bubbling "Never get sick on a weekend."
Summary: This is where Lynn's decision to close Coffee Talk works against her. After all, most of the people who used to go there to tell her that she has a camera in their sick room are scared of Facebook and thus don't have a forum to do so. Never mind that what we're looking at is a symphony in the key of stupid because Elly can't delegate because she fears being replaced; what they'll see is Elly being taken advantage of by her family when she's sick.
