Panel 1: For some reason, Elly has taken a week to tell Mike that she doesn't care what Mrs Mayes does, she herself doesn't want him going down to that awful video arcade.
Panel 2: She tells him that it's not a very nice place and she doesn't want him coming home using a lot of new four-letter words.
Panel 3: His playing the but-Mom card and telling him that there are no new four-letter words astonishes her.
Summary: Her astonishment doesn't astonish me owing to her not really being good at this "seeing things from other people's perspective" thing. Also, most of her worrying about his use of profanity comes from the same part of her psyche that insisted on keeping him from speaking when the Enjos moved next door; as we'll see, she KNEW that he'd use a racial slur despite the fact that as bad as he is, at least he's no racist.
