What would be interesting to see is what form any sort of revival might take. It seems to me that there are three possibilities:
- The first possibility that I can see is to pick right up where we left off and proceed in real time. Granted, this would end up turning the strip into a period piece or an extended flashback but we'd be able to see the new team's interpretation of Lynn's vision.
- The second possibility would be a Star Trek-like reboot. At some point in the future, the straight reprints would end and new material set in the present day would take their place. This would have the effect of turning the recombinant strip into a fix-fic.
- The most likely possibily, however, is a sort of Batiukesque time-skip. The lead-in to that that makes the most sense to me is a Sunday strip that starts with Ponytail RevElly and Neckless RetJohn sitting on a park bench watching Dainty Doll Boy Mike play and talking about how precious time is and ends with Dead-Grandpa-From-Family-Circus John hovering over Marian-Clone Elly and the Delicate Genius as they watch JonBenet and Poopie Pants play while THEY talk about how precious time is.
Since it seems fairly likely that we'd have to deal with a time jump of sorts, we'd have to ask ourselves the questions "How is the new person going to explain the intervening years?" and "Who will the new main character be?" A sensible person would simply declare that a certain amount of time has passed since the Settlepocalypse, spend the first month explaining what happened to each character in that intervening time period and continue merrily on watching a new generation grow up to call the Pattermanse home. A crazy person would start things off at a gravesite wondering why God chose to drop the Lucky Clucker sign on John's head.
