In today's strip, John wants an opinion about his physical condition that isn't 'biased'; since the lying, hateful man who tells him that he's chunked up a lot is his reflection, this means that he's Pharoah John, King of Denial.

(Strip Number 536, Original Publication Date, 11 January 1984)

Panel 1: We find ourselves at the clinic. For some reason, John asks Jean if she thinks that he's out of shape.

Panel 2: She tells him "Don't ask me, Doc. I just work here."

Panel 3: John is not satisfied by her non-committal answer. That's because he simply wants an honest opinion from someone who knows him and sees him on a daily basis.

Panel 4: He explains why he needs to be reassured. It seems that his reflection lies and tells him that he's got a beer gut.

Summary: The interesting thing about strips such as this one is that we know that Lynn wrote them to get back at Rod for taking better care of himself that she did of herself. That's because we have to figure out how she's going to tell people this while making it look as if she isn't doing it. Ah, well. Anything to distract people from the fact that John treats Jeam more like a wife than he treats Elly.
