(Strip Number 528, Original Publication Date, 28 December 1983)
Panel 1: Now that the kids have compared notes as to who got the best gifts, we find Elly following her own post-Christmas tradition: sitting in her room berating herself for being weak. She groans as she tells herself that she ate so much over the Holidays that she must have gained ten pounds.
Panel 2: She proceeds to Phase Two of her ritual self-hatred by standing in front of the mirror and whining that she used to have hips and a twenty-four inch waist.
Panel 3: The scene shifts to Michael warning John that he'd better not go into his and Elly's bedroom.
Panel 4: That's because Ma is having another 'fat day.'
Summary: The annoying thing about all of this is that Elly only thinks that she's a horrible glutton who's grotesquely overweight. The only person aside from her who thinks this is Mike because all he ever hears is how fat she is. Also, we should be prepared for a Lynnsight that says "All us gals are like this."
