We begin an arc about a shopping excursion with Anne by having Elly being filled with existential horror because Lizzie's idea of helping her Mommy with sewing was to stick a package of needles in a couch cushion.

(Strip Number 511, Original Publication Date, 5 December 1983)

Panel 1: As Lizzie looks on, Elly tells the family that there was a package of needles on the table and asks if anyone knows where they went.

Panel 2: As she and Elly stand next to the couch, Lizzie says dat she put dem where Mommy would always be able to find dems.

Panel 3: As she points happily to the largish pincushion she made of a couch cushion and says "In here!!", Elly gasps in horror.

Summary: This, of course, is because Elly thinks that Lizzie did it to make her life worse because she loves chaos and hates to see Mommy happy; the idea that a three year old just plain does stuff like that because she doesn't know better is not an idea that appeals to her because it doesn't afford her an opportunity to be a big-shot martyr.
