In today's strip, Annie is made out to be a big freaking hypocrite because she learned what works and what doesn't when it comes to being a parent. Given that the poor dear thought that a mild genetic anomaly meant that she did something wrong, this is about the closest to clear thinking she ever gets.

(Strip Number 480, Original Publication Date, 13 October 1983)

Panel 1: Having noticed stacks of Dispos-a-dipe brand boxes on the kitchen table and that Annie is feeding Richard store-brand baby food, Elly asks her if she's feeding Richard canned baby food and using disposable diapers. This is less owing to being baffled by the bleeding obvious and more by something else.

Panel 2: That something is the fact that, as she reminds Annie, that the woman used to beat her over the head with the fact that her own use of canned baby food and disposable diapers meant that Elly was a failure as a woman, mother and human being and didn't actually love her children. Elly wants to know why she isn't doing the same thing with Richard.

Panel 3: Annie blandly states that he's her second child.

Summary: This is pretty much the deal with Annie. Unlike Elly and her plodding along doing the same stupid thing no matter how much she fails or Connie and her hysteria, Annie does things until they stop working.
