(Strip Number 7144, Original Publication Date, 18 September 1983)
Panel 1: We start the strip off with Elly looking in the mirror and hating what she sees.
Panel 2: Since she's the creation of a fairly attractive woman who looks at herself in the mirror and sees the misshapen visage of Elly Patterson staring back at her, she channels Lucy Van Pelt and says "BLEAH!!"
Panel 3: John notices that she's bummed and asks what's the matter.
Panel 4: She tells him flat out that she's ugly, that's all.
Panel 5: He says that she's not at all ugly; she's just right.
Panel 6: She begs to differ as she compares her nose to a wine cork, explains that one eye is higher than the other, complains that her hair is the colour of weak tea and tells him that she's ten pounds overweight. How is that 'just right'?
Panel 7: It's 'just right' because John loves her just the way she is.
Panel 8: She smiles at the warm compliment.
Panel 9: Sadly, John kills the mood by saying that if he were perfect, he might be trifle more critical.
Summary: Ah, my. Remember when we were talking about how the strip would be improved by having the last panel removed? I have a candidate right here.
