The FBorFW Newsletter for September 2012

The latest newsletter is up and contains horrible puns because Lynn doesn't like the word 'old age' when it refers to her.

September is here!
We can hardly believe it. The leaves started turning in North Bay in mid-August, but we enjoyed another heat wave recently and the summer weather is hanging on.

The annual Nipissing First Nation pow-wow happened last weekend, and as usual we had a great time enjoying the dancers in their amazing regalia, the sounds of the drums, and our favourite Native treat: fresh bannock smothered in berries.

Our 2013 calendars are here! Order yours now - quantities, as always, are limited. We have started to work on the 2014 calendar. Already!

Our third treasury will not be available for Christmas. The publisher has changed printers, so it will be released in the spring.

A note from Lynn: I have just received my second "Old Age" pension cheque. I wish they would change this name to something - anything - else! Mind you, Senior Supplement, Geezer Geld, Wrinkle Crinkle, Elder Bucks, Fogey Dough, Crony Money, and Feeble Franks wouldn't sound much better.

Lynn will be doing a talk (and guest hosting) in Vancouver On September 18th to raise funds for the "Dress for Success" program. Dress for Success is a registered Canadian Charity that helps low and no income women to transition into the workforce by providing professional attire. Each Dress for Success client receives a suit for her interviews and a small working wardrobe when she gets her job.

Lynn wrote a touching tribute to her friend, the late Phyllis Diller, after hearing the news of her death last week. You can read it here on our News Bites page.

Fans of the Enjo family from FBorFW will be interested to know that Keith and Carol are based on real-life friends of Lynn's, the Masudas. Robin Masuda brought his boys to spend an August weekend at Lynn's guest house and they repaid her with some fabulous cookng. Read Lynn's account of the weekend here (and see some photos!).

New: Caption Contest. We're piloting a new kind of weekly game on our site - a creative caption contest. Every week we're posting a classic FBorFW strip with the final panel or panels erased. It's up to you to come up with a good punchline for the strip! Each week we'll choose the winner, post his or her contribution, and send out a prize pack. Join in if you're interested, and if we attract enough players we'll keep it going!

Farley golf club covers are now available - and the best part is a percentage of your purchase will go to the Farley Foundation. Get yours here.

Want more chances to win FBorFW prizes? Like our Facebook page. Don't forget to try your luck at our Ned Search contest; we pick a new winner every week.

We keep getting asked "How do I get FBorFW by email?" Universal Uclick offers two types of accounts on GoComics.com - paid (Genius) and free - and both allow you to get comics by email. Sign up for your free account here. You can also learn more about the difference between services and upgrade to Genius level if you wish.

This month's challenge: tell us your favourite story about going back to school. We'll choose a winner to receive an FBorFW prize pack.

- Notes:

- We really shouldn't have expected Lynn to have the brains to make sure that Treasury Three would be available for Christmas 2012.

- Lynn really can't resist the impulse to make a ridiculous pun or five, can she? "Geezer Gelt"? REALLY? GAH!!!!!!!!
