We wrap up the week with John making a stupid remark about the one advantage of living together being his having the ability to back out. This, I should think, highlights what the real point of this arc is: to complain about how evil, conflict-causing MEN don't listen to the women in their lives.

(Strip Number 458, Original Publication Date, 3 September 1983)

Panel 1: Having moved the piano where they want it, John declares that Phil and Georgia are officialy "shacked up".

Panel 2: As they head to the car, Elly reminds John that back when they were first dating, they'd have gotten into a whole world of trouble for doing what Phil and Georgia are doing.

Panel 3: He tells her that she's right about its not being fair. Living together would have had its advantages.

Panel 4: For one, he says, he would have been able to back out of the relationship. This angers her.

Summary: And this, as I said, is entirely the point of this whole arc. Elly pours her heart out about something that bothers her and the selfish and evil men just will not listen but instead treat her legitimate concerns like a joke. This, I should think, is Subvariant One of the strip's premise: Elly is the eternal, helpless victim of horrible people who fear and hate her freedom of expression.
