In today's strip, John needlessly frightens a patient by not thinking about what he's saying.

(Strip Number 4363, Original Publication Date, 26 August 1983

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching John telling a Mrs Wilson that her surgery shouldn't take too long and apologizing for keeping her waiting.

Panel 2: Since he's looking at her X-rays, he has no idea that his admission that his off-the-cuff remark about having a day where nothing seems to go right has terrified her. We know that he means that he had to deal with guys like Dan Figrin. She doesn't.

Summary: At least John doesn't have to deal with something Rod had to face: a wife who resented the respect and attention paid him so much, she resorted to writing strips like these in order to defame him.
