In today's strip, John answers Elly's question about why the days simply seem to zoom by in a churlish and sarcastic manner.

(Strip Number 6021, Original Publication Date, 24 August 1983)

Panel 1: We find the Pattersons in bed. Elly tells a very tired looking John that the summer has gone by so quickly and the children are growing up so fast.

Panel 2: She then asks him why time seems to be simply flying by.

Panel 3: JFTF makes an assy-sounding comment about how they must be having fun.

Summary: Steph's description has John sounding less than impressed. The reason that this is is because just as Elly has never been satisfied with her life at any point, John resents the idea that things change. Changing fashions, changing gender roles, children growing up and developing minds of their own, it's all bad to him because it means that he doesn't get to win all the time any more.
