(Strip Number 4346, Original Publication Date, 22 July 1983)
Panel 1: We find ourselves watching the Cruikshanks and Pattersons eating dinner. As they do so, Michael tells Bev that the rooster chased Elizabeth around again today.
Panel 2: Bev notes that since the hens disappeared a little while back, the damned thing has been in a foul mood.
Panel 3: Danny says that since the rooster has nothing to do, it just goes around making a nuisance of itself.
Panel 4: Grandma Alice says that it sounds just like what happened to Vern after he retired.
Summary: This, friends, is the first of many strips that invite women to complain about how retired men seem to have nothing better to do all day than impede the progress of busy housewives. Well, that's what the notes will say. The barely-hidden joke is "HURR-HURRR-HURRR!! Vern is a dirty old man!!" Well, at least it's not cheering on spanking. That's something, right?
