Today is the start of the most ridiculous mini-arc of the Early Years. In what she'll deny is a cheap shot at the expense of a security guard Lynn thought to be a hindrance owing to his doing his job, some jobsworth sees the plastic guns and loses his religion.

(Strip Number 435, Original Publication Date, 6 July 1983)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching the Pattersons about to board their plane. All they need do is have their carry-on luggage checked and they're golden. Right now, a man I'll call Sid Jobsworth is checking the luggage of the generic old lady that happens to be ahead of them.

Panel 2: As Jobsworth starts to put John and Elly's luggage on the scanner, Mike and Lizzie shoot him with their toy guns and he panics and asks what's going on.

Panel 3: Jobsworth then angrily points to Mike and Lizzie, yells "Hold it RIGHT THERE" and calls for backup from security.

Panel 4: He then screams "Weapons Check!!" as the Pattersons look on in dismay.

Summary: My guess is when this idiot gets off shift and the supervisor who rides to the Pattersons' rescue asks him what in the name of the flying spaghetti monster possessed him to make a big ugly fool of himself by treating kids like terrorists, he'll have the man review the security footage. Said footage will clearly show that John and Elly looked as if they expected the world to come to an end long before he showed up: a clear sign that the two of them were holding. I should also think that there's some poor drone at Pearson who treated Lynn like a normal mortal instead of giving her special treatment.
