As Elly builds up how great it will be for Farley to have his own little vacation, the poor creature's eyes tell a different, sadder story.

(Strip Number 4341, Original Publication Date, 2 July 1983)

Panel 1: As they prepare to leave the kennel, Elly tries to convince tough sell Michael that Farley will be fine because of all the doggy friends that he has. Given that Mike is vaguely aware that dogs don't buddy up quite like people do, he is still sort of reluctant to leave him behind.

Panel 2: She then talks about how he'll be exercised and fed as if he were on his own little vacation.

Panel 3: She then waves Farley good-bye and tells Mike to see how happy he is.

Panel 4: A close-up reveals that Farley isn't at all happy.

Summary: Now you and I both know that a dog doesn't really know what's going on around it but we also know that it has feelings. Farley looks sad because his pack has abandoned him and, since he cannot know that they'll return for him, he no longer knows where he fits in in the world.
