We end the week with John not understanding Elly's cryptic remark about Mike's having been led astray by a woman.

(Strip Number 416, Original Publication Date, 4 June 1983)

Panel 1: As John sits in his chair reading the paper, Mike tells Elly that it was Janice's idea to chase Farley.

Panel 2: She uses a novel version of the "would-you-jump-off-the-cliff-too?" speech by saying if somebody else comes up with a dumb idea, he doesn't have to go along with it. This attracts John's attention.

Panel 3: John tries to find out what the dumb idea was by asking Elly what happened. She makes a mildly humorous comment about Mike's having been led astray by a woman.

Psnel 4: Since John is a bit thick, he thought-bubbles that he must have missed something.

Summary: Given that his sole involvement with his children is playing with them when it's fun for him and yelling at them for perceived flaws, I'd say that he missed most of their childhoods.
