Mike thanks John for telling Lawrence and Gordon that he did more than hold the nails and screws when building the glorified scooter.

(Strip Number 397, Original Publication Date, 4 May 1983)

Panel 1: We start things off with Gordo and Lawrence expressing their admiration for the go-kart.

Panel 2: Gordon then sets up the joke by telling John that Mike says that he built it all by himself and asks if that's the case.

Panel 3: John responds to the lie Gordon repeated to him with a lie of his own about how while Mike did most of the work, he himself helped a little.

Panel 4: Mike thanks John for helping to exaggerate his prowess.

Summary: Good thing that John was around. He may be a dick but at least he knows when to lie to make his son look good. If Mike were fool enough to expect help from Elly, he'd be subjected to an angry and hypocritical lecture about honesty that would destroy the street cred she doesn't care about unless it somehow boosts her own.
