Since the Pattersons are too stupid to realize that everyone else in the world has more initiative than they do, they don't understand why John can't convince someone who already bought school chocolate to buy more.

(Strip Number 4320, Original Publication Date, 13 April 1983)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Mike, who's sort of not very good at the whole talking-in-public thing, trying to sell a woman I'll call Mrs Ritdong chocolate by telling her "Hi! I'm, uh, selling, er, uh, Dad, you tell her."

Panel 2: John tells Mrs R that they're selling chocolates to raise money for Mike's school.

Panel 3: Since someone who doesn't whine about how evil ambition is got there first, Mrs Ritdong says "No thank you" and SLAMS the door in their faces.

Panel 4: Since Mike is too stupid to realize that someone beat him to the punch, he tells John "You're not too good at this, are you?"

Summary: Great. Not only do we have John acting all wounded because he has to do something with his children that isn't any fun, we have Mike being too dumb to realize that everyone else in the school isn't going to sit on their hands just so he can sell chocolate. That being said, it isn't as if Lynn is going to be able to understand this. To her, the people who didn't buy candy from her and Aaron were communist mutants from outer space who hate candy, fun and busy mothers with no help and no time to themselves.
