In today's strip, Elly and Connie talk about her new job and why John likes it: he hopes it'll help cover the mortgage.

Panel 1: As our story continues, we find Connie and Elly at the local gym as they and a group of other ladies jog. Connie comments on how Elly has a job now and Elly tells her that John likes the idea.
Panel 2: Connie speculates as to how he must think that it'll be a good opportunity for her.
Panel 3: Elly says that he actually hopes that it'll help cover the mortgage.
Summary: This is sort of a foreshadowing of when Annie went to work to pay the bills. In both cases, unreconstructed alpha-doorknobs let monetary concerns get in the way of doing things 'right'.
